I first played Goonies II on my Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1987, and my father bought me this game at Kaybee Toy Store. The game cost about $49.99 + tax. In today's money, it would cost $150 to $200. When I recently replayed this game, I didn't realize how difficult it was. Back in 1987, I finished this game in about a week. I didn't use cheats, or hint guides. I just methodically played the game.

Since I as a 12 year old kid, I had a lot of time on my hands. I played this game 6 hours a day. A lot of people in my generation spent their time staying home, and playing video games during their childhood days. I did go out with my friends riding bicycles, and skateboards as well. We did more of that back then compared to the kids of today, and the millennial generation.

As for the game, it was difficult and long game. The game mechanics were good, like most Nintendo games at the time.
After all, this game had the Nintendo seal of approval on it. Nintendo didn't give out their licensing rights to anyone you know? They were quite selective about it. The controls are simple like most games of this era, but the programming is excellent. The game plays very smoothly, and there is no choppiness. This game is a action adventure role playing game, like The Legend of Zelda. You needed to have all the right equipment to pass each section of the game. For example, you needed the scuba gear to play the aquatic levels. You need a ladder to get to the next level, etc. If you forget something, you have to go all the way back to get it. That is frustrating, and a lot of roleplaying adventure games were like that. More of often than not, you would have to save the game and play it again. There was no way of finishing the game in a single day.

When I replayed this game, I did have to read the hint guide, or I would have spent many hours playing it. Even with the hint guide, it was a difficult game. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, we did have phone numbers we can call to get hints for games. I think they charged $1.00/minute! This game was based on the 1985 hit movie Goonies, Goonies II was never released in the theaters. It was just called Goonies II, and they did have Goonies I the video game and computer game. I played it on the Apple IIc, but I never played Goonies I on the NES. Goonies II was the first Goonies game I ever played. I really enjoyed this game, and I have to say it was one of the better NES games, like Metal Gear, The Legend of Zelda, and Castlevania II. It provided hours of entertainment. If you never played this game, you should try it out on the actual NES video game console.
