The new horizons update has been a nightmare for wizards. Or so they say. How much of that is really true? I decided to face this supposed nightmare and put it to the test.
I have only played wizards for a few month. If you claim that I sucked at the class, then you are very much correct. This is just an alt that I play for fun, so I do expect to make mistakes here and there.
However, despite that, I found myself still holding my own relatively well against several classes. I did not feel the damage nerf that people have been complaining about. I did not feel the spark or undine nerf that people have been discussing.
I did notice that the demon version of the New Horizon skills weren't really useful. I took that into my own hands and went sage instead. The only thing I really felt was how much more damage wizards took these days. Before New Horizons, killing a wizard unsparked was nearly impossible. Now, you can bypass them unsparked.
I'm not sure how I really feel about the expansion from a wizard's point of view. They did get nerfed, but not for the reasons that people have been stating. Their damage is fine, but their defenses are not. They need some tanking ability because they are a class that lacks anti stun and immunity. Most classes these days catch up with a wizard's leap easily, so they really only have stone barrier. A wizard's biggest trouble right now is dying before they can strike back, due to the massive damage they take and the high chance of getting bypassed.
But does that mean wizards suck altogether? It's hard to say. Most of the people I fought don't even have soul of fire. People complain that Spark Combo got nerfed, yet it is still easy to kill people who aren't prepared with a wizard specific genie.
What would happen if I were to fight against someone more prepared? I don't really know. All I can say for now is that people given up their dreams of the wizard class way too easily. That is what made it a nightmare. Don't look at the changes and give up; Try to make the best out of it!
