"A monad is just a monoid in the category of endofunctors, what's the problem?" - James Iry

Now that Perfect World Storm is gone, everyone seem to have went to either Perfect World Mafia or Perfect World Void. From what I've been told, the servers of Mafia is rather buggy at the moment and they're taking their sweet time fixing it. So for the time being, Void is the popular pick.

The name "Monad" was originally supposed to be a programming joke, since the server is called "void". In functional programming, a monad defines what it means to chain operations together. Coincidentally, this name just so happens to fit the video.

A lot of servers nowadays seem to be defining their meta using the same chain of operations. At this point, I can start using the term "standard custom server" unironically. This is of course an oxymoron, but a lot of the "custom" servers that have been released recently all follow the same pattern of:
- arbitrarily stated gears
- fast channeling for arcanes and EA
- option to get high aps
- damage is nerfed in someway for sins/db
- clerics are buffed in someway
- 150 server
- reroll/engrave based farming
Void is no exception.

It sounds great on paper. Fast channeling makes arcanes and EA immediately on par against Assassins, which are usually considered overpowered. Plus, it's fun to use, and rerolling provides alot of variety in builds.

Unfortunately in reality, rerolling leads to defense gears, defense gears lead to gear swap, and gear swap leads to scripting and defense camping, which many people hate.

150 server means your genie has better stats and maxed affinity, so it takes a lot longer to go through someone's defenses since your defensive options are improved significantly.

High channeling plus purify spell (commonly used to buff clerics) leads to instant heals, which leads to no one dying in pk, and giving any party with a healer a significant advantage.

Ultimately, this chain of operations leads to a scenario where pk is even more so of a number game than before, and thereby essentially killing small scale skirmishes. People are even starting to have to SCHEDULE pk as if it was TW or something. Now, I'm not saying scheduled pk is bad, but it does mean that there is practically nothing to do 95% of the time in the game. It would just be like back on a PWI PvE server where all you do is wait for 1v1. So whats there to play?

Well, my friend Neil has something for you. If you check out his channel, you might notice a new video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6nGRgzQWW0 titled "Twilight Perfect World - Coming Soon". More information will be revealed in the days to come, so stay tuned!

But for now, I am bringing you this video featuring some of the very rare small scale skirmishes that I happened to find, as well as a few 1v1s. I hope you enjoy this video!
