During the day, Amy Rankin-Williams is a busy project manager at the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

"A lot of meetings…e-mails…writing up documentation", Rankin-Williams explains.

But after hours, Rankin-Williams is following her longtime passion. She’s dancing with the Marin County dance company, Don’t Quit Your Day Job Dancers.

"People will often just laugh at our name because it tells the whole story of our company… that we are people who like to dance together and we aren’t professionals," Rankin-Williams says with a smile.

The company is made up of members between the ages of 40 and 70 years old all working in a wide range of "daytime" professions.

"You became a preschool teacher, a lawyer, a construction worker or a consultant, but inside there was a performance part of you", Don’t Quit Your Day Job Dancers Artistic Director Doree Clark reveals, "There was somebody who wanted to be on stage. There was somebody who wanted to do something else….a love of dance, a love of storytelling".

For Rankin-Williams, dance adds a perfect balance to her life.

"What I love about the dance is it’s a way to really strengthen your body, stretch your body and then, you do use a totally different part of your mind in a very creative way. It makes you forget everything else; it makes you forget your day job, your work, your stress. You’re just present," Rankin-Williams elaborates.

"You can have your job and have something that you love to go to on weekends and evenings…" Clark shares, "that gives you purpose, gives you a new sense of life and freedom and fun".

The Don’t Quit Your Day Job Dancers’ new production, "Charmed" allows these talented dancers to share their joy of dance with an audience.

"I think our commitment and our passion about it just really comes through" Rankin-Williams shares.

"I hope that we lift them up and they feel fabulous and great and the end of the show," Clark adds.

"People get really inspired and say to me: 'I’m going to return to that art class’ or something else that feeds that creative passion inside that we need to balance our daily work lives", Rankin-Williams says.
