Which wonderful game do I get to play this time? Why, it's Quake developed by id Software. This is a very classic game as it really was quite a technological power house at the time it was released. While so many games were running older-looking engines (Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Star Wars: Dark Forces, Outlaws, Rise of the Triad... all good games -except for maybe Shadow Warrior) Quake introduced a full 3D environment that players could explore. Real lighting and shadows, Above average water effects. Stellar textures and detail (at the time, people, really), Quake was the game to beat. Quake was the measuring stick, it set the benchmark that all future FPS games needed to reach. Hexen II followed shortly after. Enough of the history lesson though, I could go on for hours about how great this game is and how bad games would be without it. Nah, that last part was a joke, current generation shooters are horrible to say the least. Remember secret passages? Remember health and armor packs? Remember ammo, for that matter? Remember cheat codes like notarget, god, impulse 9, noclip, impulse 11, impulse 255, and (my personal favorite) kill?Just kidding, +mlook was my favorite. Mouse look was one of the best parts about Quake. So what's Quake, you ask? Honestly? I read the manual for this game what feels like 20 years ago. Granted it was shorter than that. But it's just been so long. Look it up on the internet if you get a chance. Something about some evil dude named Quake who summoned monsters to kill people. He broke out of prison or something like that. I don't even remember what motivation you have for chasing this dude. Once again, another story for another time.
