The console was released in Japan and North America in 1996, and 1997 in Europe and Australia, and the controller was quite unusual looking. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has praised Nintendo for their success and their influence on the gaming industry in the past, but even he admits that he still doesn’t understand the design of the N64’s controller.
