You may be asking yourself, "Self, what the F is Philosophy Time with Bob and why is Bob doing it, and what exactly is going on here?"

A very good question.

Oh, you were expecting an answer? LOL! Watch the video.

In this video I sort of deal with the paradox that if you don't criticize yourself and doubt yourself, you are unlikely to refine your tool kit for achieving your dreams, and at the same time if you don't pursue your dreams with determination, you won't achieve them either. It seems paradoxically that you must doubt yourself and believe in yourself at the same time. In fact, we have all sorts of unhelpful emotional issues involved here, and once we disentangle ourselves from them, it becomes clearer that self-criticism and determination aren't opposites but each is helpful to the other. We have to abandon our language of "self-doubt vs. self-belief" and turn it into "self-criticism AND persistent determination."

When we allow self-esteem questions to interfere with our ability to criticize ourselves, we remove from our toolbox one of our most powerful tools for improving our lives and achieving our dreams. When we allow self-criticism to turn into self-doubt, we sabotage our ability to take the fruits of our struggle and march forward with them. This is best solved by taking self-worth out of the picture altogether. Self-worth, self-esteem or the lack thereof are all equally illusions, we are tiny specks in a strange universe that doesn't revolve around human beings.

However, we all presumably want to live happier and more interesting lives, and we all want to achieve our dreams, and knowing how to use both self-criticism and fierce determination in their proper places in life can, I think, help with that.

I actually have a bachelor's degree in Philosophy, so even though you may know me as "that KSP guy," I do have other sides to my personality. ;)

As an aside, Mango has grown a ton. When I first got him in May of 2013, he would fit in the palm of your hand. Now he is a man-panther of a cat, and probably still growing even now. His feet are still big for his body. I was looking at the picture of him on the intro which I made 3 months ago, and he was so tiny then. They grow up so fast. I'm going to have a leopard-sized cat on my hands before long. ;)
