Photoshop: Remove Foreground Image: Using the Pen Tool

I know there are already a few tutorials on the internet out there about this same tutorial, but I figured I would give you my take on it and hopefully make it easier for anyone trying to get the hang of the pen tool, or how to speed up the process of making a thumbnail for a YouTube Partner video!

For some people, the pen tool is extremely intimidating and confusing, but I'm here to show you that it shouldn't make you feel that way! The pen tool is an extremely versatile tool and once you learn how to properly manipulate it, it makes your life using Photoshop that much easier!

Before we start, I would like to quickly remind you of just a couple of keyboard shortcuts that will probably be useful during this project.

Firstly, don't forget CTRL + Z for those of you who are using a Windows computer or CMD + Z for those of you who are on a Macintosh as I am. This keyboard shortcut is the equivalent of "Undo" and will be used often unless you're perfect and we all know nobody's perfect, so don't forget this one!

The next shortcut is just like the previous and it is the equivalent of "Step Backward" which is accomplished by "CTRL + SHIFT + Z" on Windows, or CMD + SHIFT + Z" on a Mac. Now, the difference between these two is that the first one, or "Undo", only undoes the last step, while "Step Backwards" can step backwards all the way to the first thing you changed.

Last, but not least, is CTRL + Y on Windows, or CMD + Y on a Mac. This "Redoes" what was just undone. This one is just encase you step backward too many times and want to redo what you just undid without physically re-selecting the point in our case.

Now that we have those steps down, sit back, relax, and watch the video for how to remove the foreground image from the background! It's much easier to visually see how to do this than it is to try and explain it in text for you.
