Simply Piano App Review:

A Nintendo Switch game that teaches you how to play the piano through the touch screen, a la Simply Piano, sounds amazing. One day, I was looking through the Eshop when I found a game that promised just that. Titled "Piano Learn and Play," the game will teach you the basics of hitting the ivory keys through a collection of songs. Does this game live up to its Twenty-dollar sale price? Hell, no, it doesn't! But it's usually on sale for a buck. Is it worth it then? Well…
[Intro]
Once you open the game, you are met with this introduction screen with pretty background music… wish this song could be one that you play. You are met with four options: Play, learn to play, Arcade piano, and the most important languages. Each of these game play modes are pretty much the same with a little bit of a twist. Play will have you play the piano without any song notes coming down. Learn to Play will have the song repeat endlessly and allow you to adjust the tracks speed. Arcade piano as you try and get a high score on the song. Lastly, languages let you choose from English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. Sorry Germans, you won't be able to play this one.
Once you choose your option, you can pick from a large list of about thirty songs to play. That includes the free DLC packs that you might as well pick up since it's free songs. All of these are midi covers of famous folk tune songs. They all sound pretty good for basic covers and fit exactly with something found in Simply Piano. I won’t reference that app anymore but what my review of it below. The arrangements of the songs are all pretty good and they match the song very well. One issue though is that there aren’t really any chords in this app so some songs just have you play the root note.
Once you choose a song you must play it. The colors in the overhead corollate with the kay and the square blocks tell you when to hit them. It’s like a piano version of Guitar Hero. The interface is nice, but I do wish it was in note notation like how you would normally read it. Reading staff will more likely put this app in the “learning” category but that would take way more effort from the developers of Anime clock. When I first saw this game, I thought it was actually a teaching program, whereas in reality it’s more like a cheap toy.
Alright, I got to be nicer to this game. Common… think of something… oh! The interface for the menu and the game screen is rather clean and simple. I love the choice of colors to that represent each key. It’s nice. There isn't any slowdown which is something surprising from the publisher "RedDeer.games". They make all those fake operating system apps and Henti games for the Switch. If you are free go look at their page on the Nintendo store… so much useless shovelware. Remember back in the day when Nintendo had standards… good times.
One thing I want to point out right away is to look at the keys. The app has an "H" key on the far right. In most of the world, that is the "B" key, but it's called that in a few countries, mainly Germany. However, German isn't in the language setting! There is a mystery afoot with this game! What is Germany Planning!
There really isn't much to say about this game. It's a dollar app you play for thirty minutes and then never touch it again. Maybe pick it up once or twice when there is another free DLC pack but other than that it’s a novelty. If you buy “Piano: Learn and Play” at full price, then shame on you. That’s a huge waste of money when it’s on sale for a buck every other day.
By the way, all of the publishers' games are copies of other games that they themselves have published before. I actually found this games copy called "nPiano". From the screenshots they look identical with even the full piano being an exact copy of that game. I’m pointing this out to show the lack of care but also to let you know If you bought nPiano, then you bought this game. There is also Piano for kids and like five other versions of this game with different DLC bundled in. Just get whatever is on sale or don’t buy anything at all… I don’t care. I have nothing else to say, so I will bring up a few complaints about this game.
My first complaint is the Arcade mode. The whole point of this mode is that it scores you playing the notes on time. Afterward, you see your score, which isn't saved anywhere. There aren't any leaderboards, so I write them down on paper. It's like the old days when they wrote arcade high scores on chalkboard in case the power went out. Good times. The second complaint is that holding the key doesn't hold the sound for the same period. Makes the song all cut up without any of the holds. Third, this doesn't actually have anything that actually teaches you piano...
