Throw you Pikmin DO NOT charge them in this fight because his rollers can kill you in a snap. Thankfully it's the same fight as the pikmin 2 version but he seems to have a bit more HP. Though that may just be due to this fight being set much earlier in the game than pikmin 2 and you only have around 50 at this point unless you've been flarlic hunting like a madlad.
Also be a bit careful as there's a buried treasure in the arena and your pikmin will start digging it up completely ignoring the evil death roller in the room.
For killing him the boss gate lowers letting you save a second castaway, yes there's two of them in this dungeon.
