Pikmin - Day 01 - The Impact Site
It's time for something new! We finished FF7... We're almost done with Echoes of Wisdom (approx 83% done)... So we've earned a little side-game action.
Pikmin! I love this game. It actually now dawns on me that it's not all that different from Echoes of Wisdom, since Olimar can't really attack much on his own. Well, let's not waste another moment and dive on in!
DAY 01 - THE IMPACT SITE
As the name might imply, the Impact Site is where Olimar crash lands when he first arrives on this alien planet.
Upon crash landing on an alien planet, you’ll be free to wander The Impact Site. This area has very few predators on a normal day, but for today there aren’t any at all, so feel free to explore without fear. While each day normally lasts 13 real world minutes, this first day is also special in that it is limitless, giving you plenty of time to familiarize yourself with the controls.
If you approach the large bulb near the center of the clearing you’ll activate your first Onion, which produces a single Pikmin of the color that matches it, in this case red. Red Pikmin are stronger than the other varieties, and they’re resistant to fire! Pluck the Pikmin once it sprouts and get to work on growing your tiny army. You can throw or direct the Pikmin at the flowers around the Onion to knock them down, then carry the Pellets they drop to grow more Pikmin! In addition to the 2 flowers, there are also two 1 Pellets near your ship, and a larger 5 Pellet that requires at least 5 Pikmin to carry. By the time you’ve cleared this starting area, you’ll have 14 Pikmin ready to help you.
Now you need to lead them over to the large cardboard box on the edge of the clearing, and either throw them or dismiss them near the box, so they’ll start to push it. You need at least 10 Pikmin to get the box moving, but once there are enough, a short cutscene will show off their teamwork.
This smaller area features your first part, the Dolphin’s Engine! Unfortunately, your small group of 14 Pikmin isn’t enough to lift the engine, so you’ll need to grow a few more, and as luck would have it, there are a few more Pellets in the clearing up the ramp.
Lead your Pikmin up and toss them at the various Pellets (there will be three 1 Pellets and a 5 Pellet) so that they’re all working to expand your forces, then pluck the new recruits. By this time you should have 25 Pikmin, the maximum number you can earn on this first day. Lead them back to the Engine and they’ll start to carry it back to the Dolphin, ending the first day upon reaching it. The addition of the Engine means you can reach a new area tomorrow, The Forest of Hope, and that means more potential Ship Parts and Pikmin! There's one more part to recover here, but you can't get it until you find Blue Pikmin in The Forest Navel, so it's off to The Forest of Hope!
