Pikmin - Day 21 - Secret Safe (pt. 1)
Ok, here we go! We're starting the endgame here and going after the final ship part, the 'Secret Safe'. It's important to note, that this part is not required in order to beat the game. The Secret Safe is one of the optional ship parts, however you do need ALL thirty ship parts in order to get the 'good' ending.
Having said that, we're going to attempt to get the good ending. It's just a matter of trying to do it while losing as few Pikmin as possible. This additional consideration is also completely optional, as the number of slain Pikmin does not effect which ending you get.
Let's go ahead and get into it...
DAY 21 - SECRET SAFE (PT. 1)
So this is the fifth stage, 'The Final Trial'. As far as I know, there are no normal enemies here. The only threats are the actual hazards of the stage (water, fire, bomb rocks, etc) and of course... the Emperor Bulblax! This is the final boss we have to face. The boss fight is by no means a quick affair, even with some of the strategies I'm currently trying out.
Because of that, we'll actually need to divide this mission up into two days. The first day (Day 21), will focus mainly on preparing the stage to have the final battle on the following day (Day 22). The guide I'm using, even goes as far as dividing it up into three days, using the last day to collect the Secret Safe. I think that's a little excessive and there should be enough time to get it done in two. We'll see.
Anyway, there's only a handful of things you'll want to take care of here. There are two stick bridges that you'll need to build out. They can only be approached on the water, so we'll need Blue Pikmin. Take out 80 Blue Pikmin and go north from base camp. You should be able to see both stick bridges pretty easily. They are separated by a stone gate.
Have your Blue Pikmin build up both bridges, then call them back momentarily. Take out 3 Yellow Pikmin. There's an island to the east of the stick bridges. You'll need to throw your Yellow Pikmin from the shore to this island. Cross the water and join them on this island, then stand on the rocky cliff of it's northeast shore.
Throw your Pikmin onto the higher platform. Then have Olimar use the Water Spout to join them up here. Reunite and take your Pikmin towards the rusted tin can nearby. Throw your Pikmin up there to grab Bomb Rocks, then throw them back to the island. You'll need to walk around an walk up the side of the island.
Remember to NOT whistle at any Pikmin holding a Bomb Rock. This may cause them to throw the bomb rock from where they're standing. Apparently, this applies only to the Gamecube version and has been fixed in subsequent ports. After joining them on the island, throw them onto the shore.
Join them back on the mainland and use the first completed stick bridge to reach the stone gate. Normally, you'd need more than three Bomb Rocks to destroy a stone gate. But since this one is small, it only requires three. Give it the old 1-2-3. Now you can walk from the beach onto Stick Bridge 1, past the opened stone gate and onto Stick Bridge 2.
But, hello? There seems to be something in the way. A box and it can only be pushed from the side. So we'll go back to camp and take out at least 10 Red Pikmin and take them northwest from camp. You should see an elevated railed path lined with Fire Geysers. Throw your Red Pikmin up there.
Now walk through the water and go just to the right of your Pikmin, on the other side of the right rail. Whistle and they'll attempt to reach you. Head north along the water to force your Pikmin to cross the Fire Geysers. Since they're Red, they're not harmed by fire. When you can't go any further north, dismiss them and they should go push the box out of the way.
Almost there! To reach the area where the final boss lurks, we'll just need to destroy this white bramble gate here. You see those vines sticking out of the ground? That's the boss. If you walk over it, or throw a Pikmin at it, it will rise from the ground.
The last thing we should do is destroy the white bramble fence on the opposite side. So take your Pikmin into this 'arena' type area, but stick to the sides. Clear the white bramble fence and pack it up! The final boss fight can take a whole day, so we shouldn't attempt it right now.
I apologize that I did everything I just described in a different order in the video lol. Welp, it's time for us to take a break. Join us next time for 'Day 22 - Secret Safe (pt. 2).
