My advice on creating levels for pixel art games, especially JRPGs:
Your game will be blurry. It'll be blurry in screenshots, it'll be blurry to the human eye. To make your game pop even when blurry, there are three basic techniques.
A) Use framing to "circle" critical aspects. Fill half a screen with these framing elements.
B) Find a visual that's striking when blurry and repeat it throughout the level as a repeating motif.
C) Think about your color palette ahead of time, because color is a major part of what people see when things are blurry.
D) I know it's Corneria in some translations.
