This is all about sizes. As they say....sizes matter.

Sort the columns from the smallest to the biggest size in "Going Up" and from the largest to the smallest size in "Going Down", so you can escape the monster in both modes.

If you've escaped the monster successfully you can activate the trigger to trap the monster under a column, killing it.
