Planet Stronghold Part 59: Going on a Date
There are two more alien quests we need to unlock by talking to Lucille, but I decide that can wait. Right now I want to continue the romance subplot with Rebecca, and I have Joshua go to the training room to talk to her. We start by asking her how the training’s going, but she stops us. She’s noticed that we’re looking for excuses to come talk to her, and she asks what the deal is. We have two dialogue choices at this point—either we can say we want to get to know her better, or we can say we want to ask her out. The latter is the correct choice to continue the subplot, so I select that. Rebecca’s quiet for a second, and Joshua initially thinks she’ll laugh at him. To his surprise, though, she cheerfully accepts. Apparently she and Tom were once a couple but have since broken up, and the single life has gotten stale for her. Joshua’s thrilled, and while Rebecca insists that it’s not a real date—just a drink together at the pub—she’s not fooling anyone. We’ll come back to the training room later and then go out with her.
With that done, I decide the next item on the agenda is visiting Damien to get some of his special gear. The Peacebringer is still a bit much—it requires several consecutive fights in the Rebels’ arena, and we still don’t have anyone with the required stats—but both Psionics are pretty close to qualifying for the Leviathan and Michelle can definitely use the Reaver. Getting the Leviathan simply requires handing over five Lifegivers, so that’ll be easy, but the Reaver’s a lot trickier. A single party member has to defeat Damien in a one-on-one duel, which definitely won’t be easy on Nightmare given the Rebel leader’s high health and damage output. Regardless, I think we’re up to the task so long as we have lots of Ultimate MediKits. Since I’m planning to give Michelle the honors, I head to the equipment screen to stock her up on the MediKits, then head to Damien’s home sector. First I ask about the Leviathan, and we exchange the Lifegivers for the powerful amplifier. Humorously, Damien initially claims he lost the Leviathan, but quickly says he was just joking when Joshua is horrified. Once we receive the Leviathan, the quest “Give Me Life” is over and everyone gains 300 XP. Philipp gets promoted to the next level; I allocate his skill points into Lockpicking. Now it’s time to get the Reaver, and I arrange for Damien and Michelle to fight a duel for it.
From a statistics perspective, Damien has all the advantages. He has 199 health compared to Michelle’s 123, and his special attack Headshot can instantly reduce his target’s health by 50. His standard attack is also nothing to sneeze at; it can inflict 15-26 damage per turn with a good chance of critical hits. Of course, he can’t heal. Michelle’s got lots of Ultimate MediKits, so we can keep her patched up and outlast Damien so long as we’re careful. The fight begins well for us, as Michelle is able to avoid serious damage while whittling away at Damien’s health the first couple of turns. On Damien’s third turn, though, he nails us with Headshot and reduces Michelle’s health to just 42. I spend the next several turns taking MediKits, and while Damien continues his attacks we’re able to heal faster than he can damage us. After three MediKits Michelle’s back to full health and we resume our own attacks. It pretty much goes like that throughout the fight, and with our large supply of Ultimate MediKits Damien doesn’t really have much chance. After burning through lots of those MediKits—I ultimately use 16 of the 24 in Michelle’s inventory—we win the battle of attrition to defeat Damien. He’s stunned that he lost, but nevertheless honors the outcome and hands over the Reaver.
I rest and equip Michelle with the Reaver, then return to the training room. Rebecca tells us to go to the pub and she’ll meet us there, so Joshua heads over. When Rebecca finally arrives, she’s dressed in a very revealing top that shows off plenty of cleavage, leaving Joshua rather dumbstruck. When she sits down, she asks if we’re feeling okay, presenting us with the option to either flirt with her or try to be friendly. We’re supposed to flirt to continue the romance, so I select that option; Joshua tries to say that her clothes and body are hot, but he’s too tongue-tied to finish the comment. Rebecca quickly catches on when Joshua starts to blush, though, and our relationship points jump up. The two of them have a drink and make small talk for the evening, but Joshua makes sure to avoid asking any personal questions. Soon enough the date’s over and Rebecca invites us to do it again sometime, which Joshua happily agrees to.
