We’ve gone on our first date with Rebecca, but there’s still more to her sideplot and I want to finish it before resuming the main storyline. Inconveniently, the game requires us to advance the in-universe clock between visits, so before we can go back we’ll need to engage in combat and rest. In light of that, I decide to revisit Sector B3, one of the sectors where we went looking for missing computer parts much earlier. There are still some wandering parties here, and they haven’t gotten any stronger since we first visited the sector. At this stage of the game they’ll be no match for us, so this is the perfect spot for one-sided battles that we can win quickly and easily. With that in mind, I head to the sector and engage a force of robots. The opposition consists of one Battle Bot Gunner, one Corrosive Battle Bot, and one Battle Bot Phasor; it only takes us five turns to win the engagement. Tom does get promoted to Level 8, though, and I allocate his skill points to Heavy Weapons. After resting and collecting Lifegiver, I return to the training room to talk to Rebecca again. Surprisingly, Tom is there in his civilian clothes—he already invited her to the pub. We’re invited to join them, and while it could be a bit awkward we have to accept to continue the plot. I agree to accompany them.

When the three of us arrive, Rebecca sends Tom to buy some drinks and privately tells us that she’s glad we came along. Apparently Tom still loves her and is hoping that they’ll end up back together, which she isn’t interested in doing. She wants to focus on the mission for now, and lets it slip that she has some unfinished business against the aliens. This puzzles Joshua, but before he can ask for more information Tom returns to the table and small talk resumes. It’s a fun but uneventful night, and soon enough the cutscene ends. Still, Joshua isn’t sure what exactly Rebecca meant by her comment about the aliens. We’ll have to return to the training room for another visit to find out, and that means engaging in another quick battle. I head back to Sector B3 and attack another enemy party; this one has the same roster as the last one and we once again win without any trouble. I rest and collect more Lifegiver, then head back to the training room to talk to Rebecca again. We greet her and ask what she meant about the aliens. She’s initially reluctant to open up, but we point out that we’ve developed a solid relationship and have earned her trust. She agrees, and tells us that she once had a twin sister named Cassidy. They were apparently very close, but Cassidy was killed by the aliens. To our surprise, Rebecca suddenly begins crying right there in the training room, and she asks us to follow her to her private quarters. As tough as she is, she doesn’t want anyone seeing her like this. We sympathize and follow her back to her room, where she changes into her civilian outfit. She tearfully explains that Cassidy’s death is the reason she’s strongly anti-alien, and the game gives us the option of kissing her or asking for more information on Cassidy. The latter option is what the game requires to advance the plot, so I do that.

Rebecca tells us that she and Cassidy were both in the army, but had very different personalities and roles. Rebecca, as we know, is aggressive by nature and was a fighter. Cassidy, on the other hand, had a much more introverted personality and worked as a field medic. The sisters’ opposite outlooks and roles appear to have complemented each other quite well; Rebecca mentioned feeling complete when Cassidy was treating one of her injuries. One day, though, Cassidy was KIA by an Apex alien, a fact that has haunted Rebecca ever since. She misses her sister dearly and has never given up hope that one day she’ll settle the score by killing the Apex responsible. In fact, she already knows where this particular Apex’s lair is and has plans to do just that. Joshua protests, saying that she can’t possibly take on a dangerous Apex by herself. Rebecca insists that it’s personal at first, but eventually she agrees to let us come along as backup to make sure the Apex is defeated. This opens Rebecca’s personal sidequest, called “Sweet Revenge”, which gives us the task of killing the guilty Apex. The game won’t let us go right away, however. We still need to fight and rest another turn, so it’s back to Sector B3. This time our opposition is a lone Dredan Soldier, an even weaker opposing force than the robot parties we’ve engaged in this sector. To make it even more one-sided, I have Rumi Disrupt him. It takes only three turns to win this fight, and I rest and collect our Lifegiver. Now it’s time to help Rebecca avenge Cassidy.
