PLANK! Review - Timing-based AR Arcade Game (iOS)
3Correction: The AR mode is a competitive part of the game where you play against another player, whether in the non-AR game you are on your own trying to reach as far as possible. The AR mode is very short and you just need to complete a few columns and do that before your opponent does.
In this video, I review a mobile augmented reality game called PLANK! This game can be played in standard (non-AR) or in augmented reality. The two modes are quite different but the core gameplay remains the same.
In the AR mode, you play against another AI character or real player (over Wi-Fi), whether in the non-AR mode you play on your own, trying to reach as far as possible.
The gameplay is simple. You need to press and hold the screen to build a plank. The longer you press, the longer the plank. You need to make sure that the plank can be positioned at the right length so your character can safely reach the next column. If it's too short or too long you fall. You get extra points if you are able to build the plank in the right amount so it falls into a designated marked area on the top of the column.
The game plays well in augmented reality, with clean visuals and good use of AR for getting the right perspective to asses the depth of the columns from one another.
The game is available for Android as well, but it doesn't support AR, at least not on my OnePlus 6 ARCore enabled device, so I don't think other devices will support it, at least not as of the time of reviewing the game (November 22nd, 2018).
I love the competitive aspect of the game and the fact that the multiplayer aspect plays in parallel and it's not turn-based one..
