In this review, we'll take a closer look at a game called AR Fighters, developed by Station Games. This game is more of a simulation game as it doesn't employ any progression, there are no goals to work towards to, it's just a plain AR fighting where you just punch enemies using different moves.

The game has many issues which I talk about in the review. Having said that, it was interesting to use it because it gave me a basic understanding of how an AR fighting game can feel like when playing in AR. This is why I do recommend both fighting game fans and developers to check it out. It's not the only Augmented Reality (AR) fighting game out there, and I intend to check out others as well.

"AR Fighters" is developed using Google's AR Core, which means that you'll need an ARCore compatible device in order to play it. I played and recorded the game using my OnePlus 6 Android smartphone which is compatible with ARCore.

The controls felt smooth and worked well. I really like the fact that you can combine moves like jumping and kicking in mid-air to create a new exciting move. There are no combos here like mortal kombat X does, and as I said, it's a simulation game and it is categorized as such on Google Play.

I do hope that in the future we'll get to play a fighting augmented reality game with much more depth and content. Imagine being able to fight your friends locally using Shared Gameplay, unlocking new characters, participating in tournaments, playing against other players online and all that in augmented reality.

Now that Super Smash Bros Ultimate is coming out soon, I am kind of looking forward to having a similar gameplay experience in augmented reality, and let's just hope that someone out there is working on such title, maybe something that combines a Pokemon-style game with a fighting/brawler game.

So although this game has bugs and issues, I recommend trying it out. I did enjoy the time I had with it, but because it's not a complete game and it has so many issues, I probably won't play it again, maybe until some of the issues it has been fixed.

You can download AR Fighters by Station Games from Google Play here:

Have fun and tell me what you think about this type of fighting games in AR in general and this game in particular.
