Dig! for MERGE Cube Review - Create Amazing 3D Worlds Using Blocks
In this video, I revisit a Merge CUbe app called DIG!. I've been using it more lately and I learned to appreciate its simplicity and the creative opportunities it holds the more I used it. My initial impressions regarding usability weren't too positive but still, it is one of the more interesting Merge Cube apps out there in my opinion.
It's a creative app designed to work exclusively with the Merge Cube accessory which is sold independently (I bought mine on amazon.com).
It's an app for all ages. You can use it to build and mine to create 3D worlds that you can literally hold in your hand. You choose the type of block texture you would like to use or items and start building a new 3D construction from your own imagination.
You can place voxels right on top of the other and even use the shovel to remove existing blocks or dig down into the cube itself.
You can download other pre-made creations online as well as save and load your own. You can also extend over other creations by downloading them and start working on them straight away.
The great thing about this creativity app is that it's very simple to use and very impressive visually.
My initial impression of it wasn't so positive and I found the number of tools to limit my creativity and a bit hard to control the exact placement of where I want to place the cube. However, over time I learned to actually appreciate its simplicity and got used to the controls.
The thing is with DIG! is that it is limited to the size of the cube my design. There are some ways to overcome this, by using a larger default size (extended using virtual models) to make the cube larger but still, the cubes have to be relatively small if you want to create some cool complex structures with it. That being said, it would be nice having the option to create large-size blocks.
Over time, I learned to enjoy it more compared to how I did the first time I tried it. It actually turned out to be my favorite creation Merge Cube apps but again, it's not without its flaws.
I do recommend using the Merge Cube holder for it if you intend to spend a lot of time on building complex worlds with it. In the review, I held my Android phone in my hand but obviously, it can be tiring for your hand if you spend a lot of time with it.
I do recommend buying the Merge Cube, no doubt about it and trying this app out (it's free).
