Idea: Super Smash Bros. Style Game for Merge Cube
For those who don't know what the Merge Cube is: https://arcritic.com/1415/merge-cube-review/
Imagine being able to play a Super Smash Bros. -like brawler game in augmented reality on the Merge Cube AR accessory.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is coming soon on December 7th, 2018 and as a fan of fighting games, AR and the Merge Cube, I thought about how it would be like if I could be like if I was able to fight real players (multiplayer) on the Merge Cube Super Smash Bros-style!
In the video, I explain some of the core mechanics but of course, everything is open for a change. I did this video to inspire developers to create cool gameplay experiences for the Merge Cube that are inspired by some of our most beloved arcade games.
The thing is that a multiplayer brawler game can be really fun on the Merge Cube and in augmented reality, because of the natural motion control which is done by hand and the ability to animate the characters in mid-air in augmented reality, which can make the fighting experience very impressive and entertaining to watch.
It's also fun knowing that a character that moves on your cube is actually controlled by a real human being playing the game. The good thing about the Merge Cube is that it uses markers, so it results in a very accurate reading of the orientation of the cube, thus should provide a smooth non-jittery gameplay experience.
Now, I don't know which developer will opt to prototype this type of multiplayer game for the Merge Cube, because it does require a greater degree of effort to make as the multiplayer happens in real-time and should be well synchronized to make it work. There are probably other obstacles that I am not aware of, because I am a web developer, not a game developer, although I have experience in developing games, but not something I am doing right now.
Whether this is a type of game that people will play, well, you tell me. I want to hear your opinion about it, do you think this is a type of game that you want to see on the Merge Cube or maybe using another AR accessory of some sort? Please share your opinion in the comment section below.
Thanks.
