In this lecture/discussion session from my Fall 2013 Introduction to Philosophy class at Marist College, we continue our study of Plato's Symposium, turning our attention now to the middle three speeches -- by Eryximachus (the doctor), Aristophanes (the coming playwright), and Agathon (the tragic playwright and the host of the party).
By examining their speeches, we get to explore a physical focused account of Love as harmony between elements, a funny fable that reveals a deep truth about human desire, and a well-constructed rhetorical address essentially identifying Love with the Good and the Beautiful (the Greek kalon kai agathon)
