playback modes of Colossus 2 EDID virtual monitor
Diablo 2 ,
played at 800 x 600 true native res.
recorded at 1920 x 1080 on Window's 8.1
( No scaling )
using amd CCC MAX AA settings
24xEQ , Edge detect , Super-sampling
this video demonstrates:
that while the
Colossus 2 can only record at:
1920 x 1080p 30 Hz only
1280 x 720p 30 and 60 Hz
720 x 480 30 and 60 Hz
640 x 480 30 and 60 Hz
Colossus 2 does allow playback via it's EDID
virtual monitor at:
1920 x 1080
1777 x 1000
1600 x 900
1366 x 768
1360 x 768
1280 x 1024
1280 x 720
1024 x 768
800 x 600
640 x 480
and possibly more .
i do keep the desktop res at 1920 x 1080
i also have amd CCC settings to run
800 x 600 res. without scaling .
ie; the GPU outputs true native
pixel res. of 800 x 600 while encapsulated
inside a 1080p signal .
Thus , the Colossus 2 or a real monitor's
EDID continues to get a 1080p signal .
To make that happen ,
i first manually set the desktop to 800 x 600 ,
Use GPU up scaling
Use centered timings
set the Over-Scan slider to 0 % ,
un-check the "Use the scaling values box"
the above steps must be repeated for each
res. such as 1600 x 900 , to prevent scaling
to full screen.
However,
1280 x 720 always scales\re-samples to full screen ,
( even with "Use centered timings" )
thus , i prefer to use 1360 x 768 .
tricky note:
to set the desktop res. to 800 x 600
( must be fairly quick )
do it first via the amd CCC ,
then go into Window's Screen Resolutions( right click deskTop )
and set to 800 x 600 .
( normally 800 x 600 is not visible in Window's Screen Resolution slider )
ie; if you only set 800 x 600 res in the CCC , then Window's , in a little while ,
will force it back to 1920 x 1080 and you will not have time to setup the CCC settings .
( yes , the deskTop icons will crunch )
The above must be done ,...as when the deskTop is at 1920 x 1080 , then
an app. starts up in full screen mode 800 x 600 , this new res. was
pre-configured and will run at a true pixel count of 800 x 600 .
Colossus 2 is like a Gosling . When Hauppauge Capture is opened,...
whatever the res is when opened , that's the res it will record at ,...
and since the deskTop was at 1920 x 1080 , the app. will get recorded at 1920 x 1080 .
Gosling effect:
If i wanted to record at 800 x 600 , then i need to set the deskTop to 800 x 600 ,
and then open Capture.exe app .
i do believe this will result in a low quality recording , because Colossus 2
will select a nearest allowed record res.( 800 x 600 is not a supported record res. )
( re-sampling will occur )
Best to always cap. at 1920 x 1080 ,
then ALL full screen apps. will record without re-sampling .
recorded with EAX via SPDIF( optic ) Creative x-Fi 5.1 pro usb sound card .
The whole clip was re-transcoded via cyberlink , because uTube can't find
the 5.1 Dolby track . The audio becomes standard pcm .
