remember my video with dreamcast in vga monitors? in that video I explain how the only monitor I have that works with the console is a Dell E772c.

well I managed to snag a 2nd dell for my birthday. it had an issue though, it was snapping/arcing. the gun inside the monitor would freak out when this happened and would make it skip.

I opened it up, pulled off the anode cap,, discharged the tube, then cleaned it. after this i rubbed on some dielectric grease where the anode cap sits (on the red paint).

It's worked for 2 nights now, so I'll be screwing the case back on. Was a simple and cheap fix. and now I'm more confident about discharging tubes.
