It's been about a month since Virtual Reality came out for the PS4, and I've had time to play over half a dozen games and several demos. I can tell you right away that if you're even considering this purchase, you probably should get one now. The first thing I noticed was how light and comfortable the headset felt. When I looked through the lens everything was foggy. Don't use a tissue to wipe it off use the cloth that's in the box. The goggles fog up occasionally but it is easy enough to wipe it without taking the headset off. My VR didn't come with any peripherals so I had to buy the camera separately. What it did come with was a lot of cables, because the VR needs to be tethered to an additional processing unit that you wind up connecting to the back HDMI port and front USB port, it's a bit of a mess.
Within 15 minutes, I played my first VR game: Trackmania Turbo. Moving your head and seeing the world from the inside is an incredible experience. Driving at high speeds provides an adrenaline rush that borders on overwhelming, in otherwords VR has lived up the hype. Taking crazy jumps can be downright nauseating at times, and some games will make you dizzier than others. Robinson made me vomit. There are many great games out right that don't make you sick like Driveclub VR and Rez Infinite. All of the games I played were sit down experiences, so contrary to popular belief, you don't need to clear out your room to jump into virtual reality.
The playstation VR headset features a 5.7 inch OLED display with 100 degrees of view with the capability to display 1080p. As far as I understand it, the resolution has been downscaled to accommodate the power of PS4, and the PS4 Pro will display games to their full potential. It was a bit of an eyesore having to look at jagged edges. The PSVR comes with earbuds but I have a pair of Bose Soundtrue that do the job. Another thing is if you haven't bought the camera yet, setting it up is convenient due this little doohickey-- so it can rest on top of any television. Overall, Playstation VR is new experience that will take gaming and other forms of media to a higher level. What was your first VR experience like? Start a dialogue in the comment section, and while your at it give me a list of games you'd like to see updated with VR features, for example The Pinball Arcade.
