Mary Shelly's Frankenstein Pinball Review
Frankenstein Pinball was Designed by John Borg and produced by Sega in 1995, and is based off the 1994 movies of the same name. The main object of the game is light all the Frankenstein letters so you can earn a letter of Creation and view a movie scene. Collecting all 8 letters of creation rewards a multiball play and provides score modifiers and extra balls along the way. Frankenstein pinball features a robotic monster in the middle that will act as ball lock, and a ramp that leads behind him, a third flipper on the right, several bumpers an sink holes, and an extra wide display screen even though it maxes out just under 10 billion, which is totally achievable because there are a lot of high scoring opportunities like geneva multiball and the creature features. Unfortunately, there are some features that you might never see, like creation multiball and super jackpots, due to the enormous difficulty and complicated goals needed to unlock them. Launching the ball into the Frankenstein drop targets is tough, but remember you can target the ice cave and north poll to collect Frankenstein letters as well. You'll usually want to play off the left flipper, because all of the big scoring opportunities are in the top right, so when the ball goes down the right in lane, shoot for the Geneva multiball so that the ball winds up being caught by the left flipper. One of my favorite parts of the table is the audio. You can choose from two different soundtracks, and the voices are good. The skill shot at the beginning is a bit too easy, and so is keeping the ball up in general. The outlanes seem very liberal with their kickbacks, so this table might good for noobs, but completing the wizard goals will have pros ripping off their face. Overall, Mary Shelly's Frankenstein pinball is a stitched together table that needs to be nurtured if you want to get the most out of it. Calling out Frankenstein pinball's minor gripes is a testament to how fun these real pinball tables actually are and how much mileage you can out of just one machine. Mary Shelly's Frankenstein Pinball can be found on season 5 of the pinball arcade or picked up on Stern's Pinball arcade in their free starter pack. And if you liked it, there are plenty of other tables from Farsight Studios that you should definitely check out. And don't forget to watch some of my other reviews to get an idea of what's out there.
