My first PC Engine cover (technically my second, as I did a PC Engine cover of the Ys song Tears of Sylph shortly before this cover)!
If The Missing Apples didn't satisfy your Halloween content quota, then this cover probably will (though this won't be the only other thing I do for the Halloween season; there's something else I have planned for a little later this month ;3). Lavender Town is perhaps the most infamous location in the whole Pocket Monsters/Pokemon series, mainly because of its chilling theme song and the fact that it has a whole tower that serves as the burial location for dozens of deceased Pokemon (and of course the creepypastas that emerged from this fact). Regardless of context, the theme of Lavender Town has a very unwelcoming vibe to it with its harsh vibrato and sharp sounds, sometimes to the point of grating on the ears. I've personally always felt that the song should be more melancholic/sad rather than unsettling/scary because of the context (which thankfully happened with the fantastic Nintendo Switch remake Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, which I recommend to anyone who wants to get into the series), so I thought I'd try my hand at a more somber/emotional take on the song. I decided to do it on the PC Engine's HuC6280 sound chip since I recently did a Namco C30 WSG cover of the Ys song Tears of Sylph and ported that cover to various sound chip assortments, including the HuC6280. I decided to try a style similar to Tears of Sylph when I started on this cover, and used the PC Engine cover I did as a basis (because of this, I've included the files for those Tears of Sylph covers in the downloads as a bonus). Those Tears of Sylph covers and this Lavender Town cover (with the exception of the 2A03+163 cover of Tears of Sylph) were all made using tildearrow's fantastic chiptune music tracker Furnace (the 2A03+163 cover of Tears of Sylph was made in Dn-FamiTracker). I think this cover was a neat experiment that came out quite well (though of course it wasn't easy with the HuC6280's larger volume range), and I hope you guys enjoy it. ^w^
