Have you ever heard about Pokemon EVs? Do you know what the difference between EVs and IVs is? How do you get EVs? These are the questions I hope to answer for you in this video. All Pokemon stats are influenced by a couple factors: base stats, level, IVs, EVs and nature. All of these topics can be found featured in their own respective episode of Pokemon Explained.
EVs are additional stat points that are added on top of a Pokemon's base stats. Together with IVs and nature, as well as the Pokemon's level, they form the Pokemon's actual stat. The actual stat is the number shown in the Summary. Based on the level, the EVs will show differently in a Pokemon's actual stat.
In short a Pokemon can have a total of 510 EVs spread across in total and no stat can have more than 255 EVs. For every 4 EVs a Pokemon has in a stat, it will gain an additional 1 stat point in the specific stat at level 100. EVs gained from an opposing Pokemon in battle is determined by the stage of evolution the Pokemon is at.
All Pokemon can get EVs and there are three current methods of getting EVs in the Pokemon games. The first one is using the following items: HP Up, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc and Carbos. You can also use wings of the following kind: Health Wing, Muscle Wing, Resist Wing, Genius Wing, Clever Wing and Swift Wing.
The second way is to battle in the wild or against trainers etc. in the game. All Pokemon that receive experience from battle will also gain EVs.EVs gained from a battle, can be increased by the use of the following items: Macho Brace, Power Weight, Power Bracer, Power Belt, Power Lens, Power Band and Power Anklet. You can also use exclusive in game features to certain games like Super Training and Evelup Island.
