Continuing onward from our adventures in Viridian Forest, we emerge into Pewter City, a place much more deserving of the name than Viridian City. There's a Pokemon research laboratory, many more houses and NPCs to talk to, and our first encounter with a Pokemon Gym. The leader of the first gym is Brock, and true to his name his gym specializes in Rock-type Pokemon. In the original releases of Red and Blue, I can only imagine how bad it felt bringing Charmander into the fight against Brock, as its ability to learn Metal Claw at level 13 was only added in LeafGreen and FireRed. Using this newfound ability, we make short work of Brock and head into Route 3, housing plenty of trainer fights and serving as the entrance to Mt. Moon. Inside we find a bevy of new Pokemon to catch, including one that could serve as a permanent member of the team for our journeys ahead!
