Sweepers – A single pokemon in your 4 player group built to deal as much damage to the raid pokemon as possible using a combination of your moves, abilities, held items and help from your support pokemon's abilities and moves to assist the sweeper. A sweeper will never dynamax since it can lose their buffs from select held items that they need to deal the most damage to the raid pokemon such as Choice Bands and Choice Specs to name some examples. You want to be the slowest member of your party since you will be dependent on your allies to trigger the shield activation of the raid pokemon before you make your attack. Attacks will have a damage trigger cap to activate shields which varies by pokemon to pokemon.
It might need the first turn to prepare (Focus Energy, Buffing moves, Terrains/Weather). Use only turn 1 to prepare only. Any other extra turns to prepare only increases the chance the Max Raid Pokemon will just erase them from play and you will have to attack with only the held item benefits only unless your support buffs you before you attack after the stat clear. The Critical Hit Ratio chance buffs from Focus Energy, Attacks with a “high critical chance” and held items are the only exception and will stay after multiple stat change eliminations caused by the Raid Pokemon
Some sweepers are ready right off the bat due to their abilities, high base stats and/or held item combinations. Feel free to attack for your maximum damage output on the very first turn. Pokemon like Mienshao that will be covered later is a great example of this.
