Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky Playthrough 71: Articuno and the Icy Flute
The next treasure we go for is the Icy Flute on Mt. Avalanche, guarded by Articuno, the Legendary Bird of Ice. Mt. Avalanche has many Ice and Water type Pokémon, and because of frequent snowstorms and the Snow Cloak Ability of some of the Pokémon, this will be one tough climb.
As the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description.
Mt. Avalanche has similar encounters to Blizzard Island and Crevice Cave, the Pokémon encountered there are Jynx, Marill, Azumarill, Sneasel, Piloswine, Delibird, Smoochum, Slakoth, Vigoroth, Slaking, Azurill, Nosepass, Swablu, Altaria, Zangoose, Armaldo, Snorunt, Piplup, Prinplup, Empoleon, Weavile, Mamoswine and Golduck. Because of snowstorms and hailstorms, the Snow Cloak Ability can be annoying to deal with, but Golduck's Cloud Nine Ability cancels out the weather.
The guardian of Mt. Avalanche, Articuno can be a challenging opponent as it can use Agility, Ice Beam, Mind Reader, Powder Snow, Ice Shard and AncientPower for its possible moves. It is at Level 43 when challenged, so bringing some Fire, Electric and Rock type Pokémon can help out against this Legendary Bird.
For level up moves, Articuno can learn Tailwind, Roost, Blizzard and Sheer Cold. Mind Reader and Blizzard is a dangerous combo, along with Agility, making Articuno destroy Monster Houses unless there are some Pokémon that have Thick Fat or resist Ice type moves. Articuno learns some interesting TM moves, like Water Pulse, Steel Wing and U-turn.
Like with the other Legendary Birds, Articuno's Exclusive Item is the Freeze Veil, which has a chance of leaving Articuno with 1 HP after being hit by a fatal blow, and the Freeze Veil can be found in Zero Isle North on the 19th floor. I find it interesting that the Legendary Bird's Exclusive Item are a reference to their Japanese names, Articuno is Freezer, Zapdos is Thunder, and Moltres is Fire.
The Icy Flute is one of the seven treasures, guarded by Articuno. It is said to increase the chances of recruiting Ice type Pokémon.
