The rival battle on Route 22 can be hard if I'm very unlucky. I used two X-Attacks and a X-Speed on Blastoise during the harmless Pidgeot. I 2HKO'd it with Strength just like Gyarados. Growlithe was a OHKO with Strength and I needed to use Earthquake to OHKO Alakazam. I healed Blastoise up so it could survive Venusaur's Vine Whip and I 2HKO'd it with Earthquake.
I went through Route 23 and I verified my badges. I picked up my last Rare Candy in the Victory Road and I used them all on Blastoise. The Strength puzzels were slow and annoying, but all the trainers were optional. I bought some Full Restores and I saved before Lorelei.

Saved at 1:58 with a L57 Blastoise.
