The Pokémon Presents has happened, and I wasn't expecting it to be really short, but they did announce a new main series title for 2025, and we did get some news on mobile games like Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Café Remix, Pokémon UNITE, and many other games, but for upcoming events in this game, the Kanto Starter Pokémon will be in the 7 Star Tera Raid Events.
To start it off is a Venusaur with the Ground Tera Type, next week will have a Blastoise with the Steel Tera Type, and after that is a repeat of the Charizard event that happened back in December 2022, it is a Charizard with the Dragon Tera Type.
Going over Venusaur, it has a Ground Tera Type, and its moves are Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, Earth Power, and Amnesia, and for extra moves, it has Sunny Day, Growth, and Petal Blizzard, it uses all three extra moves at the start of the battle. At 80% HP, Venusaur resets its own stats, and it resets the player stats at 85% time, and at 50% HP, it uses Sunny Day. For counters, as Venusaur has a Ground Tera Type, certain Grass and Ice-Type Pokémon are your best shot, the reason why I said certain Grass-type Pokémon is because they are weak to Venusaur's Sludge Bomb, but there are some that can work very well, the best example is Chesnaught, it has Bulletproof to nullify Sludge Bomb, and when Venusaur resets the player's stats, Chesnaught can use Spiky Shield to get past that turn. For moves, Chesnaught can use Swords Dance or Belly Drum to boost its Attack and use Seed Bomb for its main move. As Venusaur does know Amnesia, physical attackers are preferred, like Glastrier or Ice Rider Calyrex, Baxcalibur, and a few others are some solid examples. For support options, Frosmoth and Blissey are some notable ones, Blissey can use Light Screen and Life Dew, and Frosmoth can use Struggle Bug to reduce Venusaur's Special Attack, and it can use Snowscape to remove the sun and Aurora Veil to reduce the damage from Venusaur's attacks.
While I did adjust Chesnaught's EVs to make it an attacker, I knew that a lot of players would use Chesnaught, so I went with Frosmoth, which was brought over from Sword & Shield, because it knew Struggle Bug, Snowscape, and Aurora Veil, which were moves that helped out in the fight, but what made it tricky at first was that in one attempt, a player brought a Chesnaught with the Rock Tera Type and a Baxcalibur that knew Ice Beam, and I was using Frosmoth in that attempt to try and support allies.
Venusaur does come with the Hidden Ability of Chlorophyll, which is the best Ability to have on it, and it does pair well with Torkoal or Ninetales which can set up the sun with Drought, and the Ground Tera Type is useful for powering up Earth Power. I would say that Fire is the best Tera Type, as this turns most of Venusaur's weaknesses into resistances, and with Weather Ball, this can come to use against many types like Steel, Ice, Bug, and Grass. Venusaur can even go with a Rock Tera Type to give it a way to deal with Flying-type Pokémon with Tera Blast. Its main set is Growth to boost its Attack and Special Attack, and as it will be used in the sun, Solar Beam can be used as its main Grass-type move, while Giga Drain can be an alternative so that Venusaur isn't reliant on the sun, and it has Sludge Bomb and Earth Power for type coverage.
Venusaur can learn Acid Spray, Trailblaze, Venoshock, Poison Jab, Stomping Tantrum, Swords Dance, Energy Ball, Giga Drain, Earthquake, Leaf Storm, Knock Off, Weather Ball, and Petal Blizzard for possible moves. For Tera Raids, Venusaur can work with Grass or Poison, or it can go with the Stellar Tera Type when against a Water-type with the Fairy Tera Type and it needs to keep its resistance to Water-type moves, and it can use Acid Spray, and if it has support from teammates like Koraidon, Torkoal, or Groudon, Venusaur can use Growth to go up to +6 in Special Attack, and deal massive damage with Giga Drain or Sludge Bomb, while Acid Spray can work in lowering the opponent's Special Defense, it's got many moves to work with in battle.
