Before starting Surprise Trade, I show another Mystery Gift code, and this one is a tie-in to the Pokémon Anime, you get a Sirfetch'd which does come holding a Leak, a good held item for it, and they did announce Mystery Gift codes for Marshadow, Volcanion, and Genesect, and you can only get it from your local game shop, I couldn't find where to get them through the GAME Online Store, I don't like these kinds of events, I prefer getting them through Internet distributions.
Then for this week's Surprise Trade, I will be trading Tentacool, and as usual, I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and I went with Bold for the Nature, Tentacool does have good Special Defense, investing in Defense does allow it to take hits better on the Physical side. I didn't go for the Hidden Ability of Rain Dish, while it's good in rain teams, rain is not permanent unlike Generation 5 when summoned through Drizzle.
The Egg Moves I went with were Knock Off, Mirror Coat, Rapid Spin, and Haze, Tentacool does get Acupressure, Aqua Ring, Aurora Beam, Confuse Ray, and Tickle for other Egg Moves, I will list which parents in the Water 3 Egg Group that can learn those moves.
Acupressure: Skorupi, Drapion
Aqua Ring: Corsola
Aurora Beam: Shellder, Cloyster
Confuse Ray: Lileep, Cradily
Haze: Omanyte, Omastar, G-Corsola, Cursola (Requires Chain Breeding)
Knock Off: Corphish, Crawdaunt, Skorupi, Drapion
Mirror Coat: Corsola, G-Corsola, Cursola
Rapid Spin: Kabuto, Kabutops, Anorith, Armaldo (Requires Chain Breeding)
Tickle: Omanyte, Omastar, Lileep, Cradily (Requires Chain Breeding)

I went with the moves as I found them to be the most useful for Tentacool, Haze is learned from the Wooper line, while the Kabuto and Anorith lines learn Rapid Spin from the Squirtle line. Tentacool learns Muddy Water through breeding in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, it learns it through Chain Breeding from the Omanyte line, which learn it from the Wooper and Shellos lines.
Tentacool's starting moves are Poison Sting and Water Gun, and through level up, it can learn Acid, Wrap, Supersonic, Water Pulse, Screech, Bubble Beam, Hex, Acid Armor, Poison Jab, Surf, Sludge Wave, and Hydro Pump. It evolves into Tentacruel at Level 30 and it can relearn Reflect Type.
Next are TMs and TRs, I will be going over what Tentacruel can learn, from TMs, it can learn Safeguard, Thief, Icy Wind, Giga Drain, Rain Dance, Whirlpool, Brine, Payback, Cross Poison, Venoshock, and Brutal Swing, and from TRs, it can learn Surf, Swords Dance, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Waterfall, Sludge Bomb, Muddy Water, Toxic Spikes, Scald, Venom Drench, and Dazzling Gleam, and it can learn Corrosive Gas for its Tutor move. In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Tentacruel doesn't get many moves it wouldn't learn in Sword & Shield, the only ones I can find were Double Team and Cut, it cannot learn Brutal Swing, Cross Poison, and Venom Drench in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.
Back in the day, Tentacruel was the best Surf user in Red & Blue, because Special was one stat, and Tentacruel had the highest Special stat out of all Water-type Pokémon, although Starmie was the preferred Water-type due to its great type coverage, Tentacruel did have to watch out for the overpowered Psychic-type. With Toxapex outclassing Tentacruel, the difference between Toxapex having very high defensive stats, and having Regenerator for its Ability, Tentacruel does stand out as a decent Special wall. The most notable moves for Tentacruel are Sludge Bomb and Scald, Sludge Bomb over Sludge Wave because it has a higher chance of inflicting poison at the cost for 5 less power, and it can learn Giga Drain, Dazzling Gleam, and Ice Beam for a coverage option, while Haze, Knock Off, and Rapid Spin are good filler moves, and it can set up Toxic Spikes.
Tentacruel is hardly ever used in Double Battles, while it does get moves like Muddy Water, it faces competition from better Water-type Pokémon, like Gastrodon, Blastoise, and Lapras, and in the current format of online battles, Mythical Pokémon like Keldeo is allowed, and there is no limit to how many Restricted Pokémon you can use, so the high power level makes Tentacruel a very difficult Pokémon to use.
In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Tentacruel is one of the many Rapid Spin and Toxic Spikes users in the game, but as a Rapid Spin user, Starmie, Donphan, and Forretress see more use than Tentacruel, and Forretress can even set up many different hazards, like Stealth Rock and Spikes, what makes Tentacruel stand out is that it is one of the faster Toxic Spikes user in the game.
