Before starting the event, I show that you can get the Shiny Galarian Zapdos if you have participated in the 2022 International Challenge for this month and did at least three battles, and this is the first time you can get Shiny Galarian Zapdos, which has the colour scheme of the Electric-type variant of Zapdos, and there is one more International Challenge, which will likely be next month, and you can get Shiny Galarian Moltres from that Online Competition.
The Max Raid Battle Event happening right now, or around that time, is the Fossil Event, we did have one of those last year which focused on the Kanto Fossil Pokémon, but this one focuses on the Unova and Kalos Fossil Pokémon, in this case, you can find Tyrantrum, Aurorus, Carracosta, and Archeops in Max Raid Battles during the event, and there is a very rare chance of encountering a Shiny Tyrantrum during the event.
Time to go over the Fossil Pokémon, and starting with Tyrantrum, where you can encounter it as a Shiny Pokémon as a 2% encounter, its Hidden Ability is Rock Head, and for some reason, its pre-evolved form Tyrunt has Sturdy for its Hidden Ability. The benefit to Rock Head on Tyrantrum is so it can put Head Smash to great use, because a 150 Power Physical move and with STAB can deal massive damage, and Tyrantrum will not receive recoil damage, but the 80 accuracy is a drawback. Alternatively, Strong Jaw isn't that bad, this powers up Tyrantrum's biting moves, like the Elemental Fangs, Crunch, and Psychic Fangs. Tyrantrum can put some great moves to use, it can use Outrage, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Stone Edge, Close Combat, Iron Head, Play Rough, and many other moves, and it can use Dragon Dance to boost its Attack and Speed, making it a great move to have on Tyrantrum when using it, as its Speed stat isn't that great to begin with.
Next is Aurorus, it has the unfortunate honour of having the worse defensive type combo of Rock/Ice, giving it a 4x weakness to Fighting and Steel, and having a ton of weaknesses. Aurorus's Hidden Ability is Snow Warning, while it is nice on it, it is outclassed by Alolan Ninetales as a Pokémon with Snow Warning, and Refrigerate isn't that bad to have, the downside is Aurorus is a bit on the slow side, if only that thing could learn Rock Polish in this game. Aurorus's Ice-type move is dependant on the Ability, if it has Refrigerate, it can use Hyper Voice, if it has Snow Warning, Blizzard is its main Ice-type move, it can use Meteor Beam to boost its Special Attack and combine that with the Power Herb, and it does get access to some nice moves like Freeze-Dry, Psychic, Thunderbolt, Earth Power, Thunder Wave, Stealth Rock, and many other moves, it is a very tricky Pokémon to use when it has so many weaknesses and has possibly the worse defensive type combo out of all Pokémon.
Carracosta's Hidden Ability is Swift Swim, and it is not easy to make use of when Carracosta has a low Speed stat, it is better with Sturdy or Solid Rock, Sturdy to ensure it can survive at least one hit, or Solid Rock to reduce damage from super effective hits. Even if it is on the slow side, Carracosta's main use is Shell Smash, while it's nowhere as great as a Shell Smash user as Cloyster, Blastoise, or Polteageist, Carracosta is at least something, it can use moves like Liquidation, Stone Edge, Earthquake, Crunch, Aqua Jet, Iron Head, and many other moves, it is a solid Pokémon if you can put that to great use, I would prefer Sturdy on it, Solid Rock is nice, but having a 4x weakness to Grass is kind of a downside, they seem to give Solid Rock to Pokémon that have a 4x weakness to types like Grass and Water.
Then for Archeops, its only Ability is Defeatist, and while it has very high Attack and Speed, when its HP is below 50%, its Attack and Special Attack is cut in half, and while there are some Archeops sets that can use Head Smash, I don't like going for Head Smash on Archeops, so I would say Stone Edge is the more reliable choice for a Rock-type move. Archeops can be used as a Mixed Attacker, as it also has a good Special Attack stat, and it can learn moves like Dual Wingbeat, Acrobatics, Earthquake, U-turn, Dragon Claw, Heat Wave, Focus Blast, Earth Power, Air Slash, Zen Headbutt, and many other moves, and it does get some status moves like Taunt and Stealth Rock. Archeops can even be a good Pokémon to add to teams that use Weezing, as Neutralizing Gas can get past Archeops's Defeatist, preventing the drop to its attacking stats when its HP is below half.
