A lot of people would probably agree that Hawlucha is the best Pokemon to include in your party for an in-game playthrough of Ultra Sun/Moon. Great stats early, powerful STAB moves immediately upon capture, Z-moves for both the STABs before leaving the 1st island, great trial matchups early on... It's basically Mega Lucario all over again, just with better availability.
The traded Hawlucha you get for a Spearow on Route 2 is particularly effective for always having max attack IVs / +attack nature and getting bonus experience as a result of being a tradee. It overlevels and dominates even when its bases would prevent it from rocking in the lategame. Ridiculous.
While the game stops throwing capturable wild Hawluchas at you after you leave the 1st island, the ones you get here really dominate.
The fights here were all a bit trivial, so I combined them into one video. Totem Raticate is easier than its Ultra Sun counterpart. This is of course due to its quad fighting weakness, which is easy to exploit by teaching the Brick Break TM to somebody who gets STAB on it.
Makuhita sounds like the perfect recipient with Guts giving it an attack boost, and while lv. 11 Makuhitas should be available from ambushes, I had horrible luck getting them to appear - both lv. 11 ones and ones without Thick Fat.
Even at lv. 8 though, the traded Cha outstats Makuhitas everywhere besides raw attack, not quite OHKOing with Brick Break. I forego the hopes of OHKOing it on the 1st turn, which could've been possible if I'd bothered to catch a Makuhita holding a Black Belt for the held item alone (not worth the time spent without Compoundeyes access at this point) and instead use Hone Claws.
Between Totem Raticate and the Alolan Rattata it summons, it is paradoxically the latter that is more likely to kill us. Raticate usually goes for Super Fang, which doesn't kill, and it hasn't got a normal-type STAB that deals normal damage, Bite being resisted by Hawlucha. Rattata, meanwhile, has Hustle and can strike really hard with Quick Attack if left alive after the 2nd turn.
It seems like Scary Face is the move Raticate always uses on turn 1 before it summons its minion. And well, what else can it do?
I get really lucky with the whiffs here, but I didn't really require either of them to be successful.
Normalium-Z is mine. I didn't get any use for it on my last run iirc, but let's see if anything changes this time around.
We face Soliera next. Instead of using its NFE poison-type, which gets really underwhelming later into the game, she's using Furfrou. Its ability negating its one and only weakness, there's no quick way to kill it in a one-on-one fight. It has a priority attack debuff in Baby-Doll Eyes, so trying to solo it with Hawlucha is not unlike trying to KO Pichu in that first video I uploaded for this series.
I do have a good Screecher in Dunsparce now though, and using that twice seems to make it really easy for Hawlucha to do its thing in a timely fashion.
Hau 3 could be a tough battle... if his Pikachu came with Electro Ball, but it doesn't. It doesn't even always use Thundershock against electric-weak targets. This makes Hawlucha the perfect mon to kill Pika quickly - once again, if I had a Black Belt, I would OHKO every time.
His other two mons? Litten can't do much to Psyduck, who tends to 3HKO due to Litten's Sitrus Berry recovery. 2HKOing is possible if the first damage roll is low, not triggering the berry, and the second one hits on a more average level.
As for Noibat, the surprisingly early dragon/flying type, we have an overkill answer to it in the form of Jynx who I've caught from an SOS battle in Seaward Cave. SOS battles can happen right after the first trial, but no chaining can occur before we get our hands on the first Adrenaline Orbs on the 2nd island. Still, I was patient and got myself a Jynx. Because it's only lv. 10, not 12, she will have limited use, but it does come with Powder Snow, Lovely Kiss for sleeping wild mons I want to catch and has those evolved mon stats that should help me out for a while longer... maybe? She's nothing special really.
