The last time I reinstalled Windows, things didn't operate anywhere as well as I'd intended, so I had to do it once more. This time Stereo Mix is functioning, which makes 3DS capture once again possible. That would allow me to continue recording one of, like, five different 3DS challenge runs I'd started at some point, but as usual I tend to finish Pokemon stuff much more quickly. VisualBoyAdvance records perfectly on this system, and I'm going to find some excuse to check how well I can record all of PS4 (with Elgato), PSX, Nintendo DS and SNES on this system, and I believe I have at least one unfinished challenge ready for each of these. So if you ever freak out about a totally unexpected video and/or series re-appearing on this channel, that may be the reason why.

Lurantis, unlike the other two trial Pokemon on Akala island, has not been changed by a different Pokemon. This is probably for the best as it was already well-designed. They did however change up his moveset a little bit (it now has Low Sweep instead of Razor Leaf, for added coverage) and gave it two different partners (Kecleon/Comfey instead of Trumbeak/Castform). Both of the partners provide Sunny Day support, eliminating the need for charge for its 180 BP Solar Blade and making Synthesis restore two thirds of the boss's HP instead of the usual amount. Since attacks that OHKO Lurantis are hard to come by in a 0 exp challenge with our ruleset (pretty easy with X items use), we have to think of something clever.

Our vanilla Sun 0 exp run employed a Fletchinder who resisted all of boss's attacks doubly and OHKO'd the boss with the fire-type Z-move in intense sunlight after using Work Up twice for Attack+2. This time around, we have brand new options, once again (like with Wishiwashi taking on Totemwak) springing from increased base levels on Pokemon found by fishing at the bubbling spot.

It's a little strange how we end up succeeding with a water-type Pokemon in a trial that would rather motivate most players to opt for a resistant flier of some sort, but this is exactly what happens, and here's why. Lurantis's sole grass-type move is Solar Blade, which needs to be charged. It still has its Power Herb to make it work instantaneously, but that gets removed the first time it's used. Afterwards, if Lurantis is forced to use Solar Blade (for example, if it's not OHKOing with anything else), we can manipulate this to our advantage.

So, I end up using Cloyster who has a surprisingly great matchup here. As Shellder, it can be caught already knowing Icicle Spear, and every other Shellder or so (some do have the hidden ability I guess) will have Skill Ink, which guarantees 5 hits. 125 base power, further boosted by NeverMeltIce and STAB... You can see why this would be obscenely destructive when used by the right Pokemon, and a +atk nature max possible level Cloyster is just the right one. Hits harder than any Z-move that could be used for this one.

And yet, it occasionally fails to OHKO, when none of the five attacks crit and the rolls are on the low side. After Protecting to make Lurantis waste its Power Herb, Cloyster either kills Lurantis and then does the same with the Kecleon that came in, or switches out to cannon fodder so that a Quick Attack Fletchling finishes the job (its Quick Attack hits harder than Fletchinder's because of STAB, making it more likely we don't miss the KO) and also eventually dies to Kecleon's Ancientpower (it does the same thing Trumbreak did with its Rock Blast in S/M - nail fliers like Butterfree and Fletchinder super-effectively).

Kecleon is easy prey for Cloyster to finish what it started. Such a great mon to have around at this point of the game with ice being an awesome offensive typing. Also, isn't USUM the games giving ice-types their best availability in-game ever in Pokemon history? Cloyster and Jynx can bought be caught very early and perform really well.
