After a while since the last Pokémon added into Pokémon UNITE, we get Metagross in the game. At the time of recording this, the Snowball Battle at Shivre City event is live, and that is where you can items from Delibird at random to help out in battle. The last video I recorded was when Mimikyu was added, and in between, Meowscarada is out first Gen 9 Pokémon to be playable in this game.
Metagross is an All-Rounder, it is good at both attacking and defending, as it has good Defense, its Ability is Clear Body, which reduces the hindrance effects on Metagross by 10%, the duration of hindrance effect is reduced the more opposing Pokémon nearby.
It starts out battles as Beldum, and its basic attack becomes a boosted attack every three attacks which has an increased area, and it reduces the cooldown for Beldum's attacks, or those it receives when it evolves. Its starting moves are Iron Defense and Tackle, Iron Defense grants Beldum a shield, and its next basic attack is a boosted attack, and Tackle has Beldum scan to see if there are any opposing Pokémon in front, and if there are, it charges towards them to deal damage.
At Level 5, Beldum will evolve into Metang, and it learns Meteor Mash or Gyro Ball, which replace Iron Defense. Meteor Mash has Metang charge up the move, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon while it receives a shield, and the shield effect is strengthened the more opposing Pokémon that are near it, and the more damage it deals with its next basic attack, which deals damage to opposing Pokémon. Gyro Ball is a spin attack that deals damage to opposing Pokémon, and if the outer edge hits an opposing Pokémon, Metang gains a shield, and the shield effect is stronger the more opposing Pokémon the move hits.
At Level 7, Metang learns Zen Headbutt or Magnet Rise, those replace Tackle. Zen Headbutt has Metang charge towards an opposing Pokémon to deal damage and throw them, while Magnet Rise increases the movement speed of Metang, and while the text states that it levitates, this is more notable in the Metagross stage, as Metang is already floating in the air, its next basic attack after using Magnet Rise has it fall to the ground forcefully to deal damage to nearby Pokémon and throw them.
At Level 9, Metang will evolve into Metagross, and its Unite Move is Compute and Crush, Metagross analyzes the position of nearby opposing Pokémon, and it is granted a shield based on how many opposing Pokémon are analyzed, if it is 2 or fewer, Metagross attacks the Pokémon with the lowest amount of HP, and if that Pokémon is knocked off, it restores a portion of its Unite Move gauge. If there are 3 or more opponents, Metagross creates a wall around itself after dealing damage to the opposing Pokémon with the lowest amount of HP.
At Level 11, Meteor Mash or Gyro Ball are upgraded, Meteor Mash restores Metagross's HP when the punch hits an opposing Pokémon, and when using Gyro Ball, if the shield effect remains for a set amount of time, Metagross recovers the same amount of HP as the remaining shield effect. At Level 13, Zen Headbutt or Magnet Rise are upgraded, Metagross takes reduced damage from opposing Pokémon for a short time after dealing damage when using Zen Headbutt, and Magnet Rise has Metagross take reduced damage from opposing Pokémon while levitating.
Metagross has some good move options, and its Ability allows it to take reduced damage based on how many opposing Pokémon are nearby, as it gains shields for most of its attacks, it has some good advantages, but it does have to rely on attacking two or more opponents. Best held items are Muscle Band, Weakness Policy, Razor Claw, and Attack Weight, it is a good user of the new Resonant Guard, where it grants a shield to the user or nearby Pokémon when dealing damage, and this goes well with Metagross's playstyle of receiving shields when attacking opponents.
