So this is kinda weird and backwards-ish and such... tutorials! A demo! For a game that I've technically already uploaded video from! ... ... ...actually, I still have some more footage hanging around somewhere, including part where I caught the opening sequence for the Wii U version finally... weird!

In actuality, I only rented the original game, because... I felt like it was super neat and I wanted to get to try it, cautiously optimistic that it was a real game and not some careless cash-in of a side game... ... ...and it very certainly is not that. It's the real deal, at least for my money.

... ... ...unfortunately, I had stubbornly held out for SO long that by the time I rented it a couple times, enough time had passed that I was no longer willing to pay the full extended "Pokémon Tax" of a particularly stubborn MSRP that has persisted for the most part even to this day with an enhanced remake release looming by week's end. (This also held me back from the joys of Pokémon Puzzle League until its Virtual Console release on the Wii.)

Well, this enhanced remake gives me a chance to do it all over again... to get in on the ground floor and actually play this thing I love in spite of myself and in spite of the spite I show it in real life. (It also means that I can jump on launch prices and even the ever-reluctant-to-decrease eShop pricing with minimal guilt, because you KNOW you're not getting any better deal for longer than actual interest in the title itself. *sigh*)

Plus, how insane is it that this game's roster caters SPECIFICALLY to my dementia and has an outrageous type favoritism towards Ghost? ...at least if you're counting it as compared to it being a somewhat relatively exotic type. Obviously, it's a FIGHTING game, but there's still only one more actual Fighting type in either home edition of the game than Ghosts (and Psychics! ...depending on how you classify Shadow Mewtwo)... heck, there were just as many Fire types! ... ... ...some of which were ALSO said Fighting and Ghost (and Psychic!) types...

Er, what? No! This totally isn't about that!

One can't help but actually bother noticing some differences from this demo and the one on the Wii U, however... for one, no opening sequence?! But I need that to base my prospective buying habits on! ...they interestingly still have the random battles I assume are a fixture and artifact of the arcade attract mode, although I also suspect that they deliberately cut the battles short so that they don't have to worry about bogging down the flow with the demo encountering between-round menus and whatnot.

There are OTHER differences, too, but we'll have to wait until they crop up for me to actually mention them. (Don't worry, I won't keep you waiting months to find out what those are... maybe just one or two... rendered all the more meaningless when the full game has been out for that long and then some.)

---

Anyway, the demo includes a peek at the basic gameplay tutorial, unchanged from its original form, except for the instructions regarding which buttons to use... so I guess this is a decent excuse to use it now rather than never... or extremely late...r? Yeah! (We also get some interesting splash screens, right?!)

That said, it's also all voice-guided by everyone's favorite commentator/coach/cheerleader(?) ...to mute and never unmute, Nia. (I, for one, like to set her advice frequency to MAXIMUM, because I find her more amusingly inept, irrelevant and unfocused than actually distracting. Even though her voice direction is a bit all over the place, which is also kinda fun.)
