A farewell parade to HMS Ark Royal has taken place in Portsmouth. The Royal Navy's flagship is being decommissioned early as part of the government's defence spending cuts. Thousands of people lined the city's main commercial thoroughfare as a band of The Royal Marines and 160 members of the crew took part in the parade and the aircraft carrier's ensign was given to the town. A short commemorative service was given in Portsmouth's Guildhall Square.
