Portal (Godot) - open source videogame review
I've always been an advocate for free and open source software, and I firmly believe that open-source games offer a unique experience compared to their commercial counterparts.
I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of open-source games available in the Itch.io store. One such game I tried out was titled "Portal", which, to clarify, isn't related to Valve's popular game. Instead, it's a 2D shooter developed during a game jam.
The gameplay involves shooting creatures emerging from portals, and it can be played directly in a browser. However, it's also available for download through the itch.io client. The simplicity of the controls makes the game quite engaging. The game's design also ensures that players can't just camp in one spot. While it doesn't boast the polished features of AAA titles, it offers a great short-term, cathartic gaming experience, epitomising how enjoyable games can be made using straightforward components.
So, for those looking for a quick and fun gaming session, I'd certainly recommend giving "Portal" a go.
