Post-Nene Frenzy:
The repeated and unapologetic condemnation of men in general following the death of Uyinene Mrwetyana, with regards to South African social media in particular.

The tragedy that befell Uyinene and her loved in recent weeks was just that - tragic. Nobody shouldn't feel safe in public or while doing something as ordinary as going to the post office. Rape is a truly despicable crime and deserves the most severe of punishments.

But for social media users who flocked to Instagram and Twitter to voice their outrage the fact that Luyanda Botha is a legitimate rapist appears peripheral. With people opting to castigate men en masse with little to no mention of South Africa's rampant government corruption or crime epidemic.

If Nene's death hits too close to home, this video is not for you. The hysteria that has come in the wake of this tragedy is nothing short of ignorant and I find no issue in criticising deeply-flawed, knee-jerk reactions with a cynical approach; especially considering the likelihood this controversy has of eliciting a response from the South African government.
