I continue smoking Honey Badger that I purchased from Alaska Fireweed and I keep talking about Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The Honey Badger buds were small, but they are dense! There is a decent amount of frost covering the pretty green nuggs. The aroma is earthy with some sweet undertone. Expect very smooth hits and a very relaxing high. The THC sits at 26.03% with no CBD. This batch was cultivated by Smoking Joe’s Terps.

Half a bong bowl is all you need to increase your focus, lower anxiety, and relax the body while still being productive. Finish an entire bowl and that Honey Badger will get you! The high is very relaxing and mellow. You’ll still have your focus, but that focus may turn to some munchies. This strain does give an appetite. I recommend smoking Honey Badger in the evening when you are really to chill and wrap the day up. Something to kick your feet up to, play some video games, and get your snack on!

I continue talking about Jean-Michel Basquiat while really high. Luckily this strain kept my focus! Jean was born in NYC back in 1960 into a middle class family. He was raised by his mother and father in Brooklyn. He was privately schooled and his love for art was strongly encouraged by his mother, who would take him to museums. As a kid he was in an accident that caused him to get hospitalized. With his spleen getting removed and the trauma he suffered, his mother gave him an anatomy book while he was in the hospital. He studied the book and the use of anatomy became a huge part of his art. The financial burden of the hospital bills caused the divorce of his parents. His mother ended up getting committed to a psychiatric institution when he was 13. BY the age of 17, Jean had left home and lived around the city, moving from couch to couch and sometimes moved in with a girlfriend. He would sell postcards he created to make some money, even selling one to Andy Warhol years before ever working with the famous artist.

He started graffiting with his friend Al Diaz for about two years and their graffiti grew extremely popular. They tagged SAMO with their work, which meant ‘Same Old’. A lot of their graffiti included poetry and social questions for observers. They eventually came out as the artists behind the graffiti and Basquiat’s career shortly later started to rise. He was given some studio space to work on his art and his art started to sell for thousands! He started living a very lavish lifestyle, painting during the day and partying at night.

Even with the wealth he gained, he experience racism on a daily basis. Leaving high elite parties and not being able to get a cab because he was black. He was once detained at the airport and questioned because he was a black man with dreadlocks who could afford first class seats. Even the elite art world was filled with primarily all white people. They were envious of his fame and success without having to go through what they had. He showed them that art could come from any class and from anyone. His art was unlike others. He used oils, crayons, spray paints, acrylics, and anything else he can paint with. He painted in layers, sometimes overdrawing on purpose to grab the attention of the observer. He used elements to empower and depict the black persons experience. Symbols such as crowns that he would paint on the top of his black heroes, which to him were mainly musicians, artists, writers, and athletes.

He even worked and befriended Andy Warhol. The two created some amazing art that was critized by the press and elite art community. They said that the two were using each other, Jean was using Andy to get in with the elites and Andy was using Jean to regain popularity. The negative press caused them to split and a year later Andy died. Jean had already been dealing with a drug addiction to heroin and cocaine. A year after Andy’s death, in 1988, Jean overdosed in his apartment and died.

Jean depicted the experience of Black America through his art. He showed how art does not have to come from elite status to be appreciated. He empowered others with his art and paved the way for many artist to create in their own style. Saying he was a graffiti artist does not do him justice. He was a visionary with a great understanding of black history and art history. His art is a timestamp of human history that will be seen by others for as long as we exist. Rest In Peace Basquiat!

Good Bye and Stay High!

What should I talk about next?
What strains should I try?
