Today I review Honey Badger from Alaska Fireweed and talk about Jean-Michel Basquiat.

The buds I got may look small but trust me, they are dense. They give off mainly an earthy aroma with a hint of sweetness too it. There is a decent amount of frost and the buds have a nice green color. The THC is at 26.03% with no CBD. This batch was cultivated by Smoking Joe’s Terps.

A quarter through the first bowl I started getting buzzed. Half a bowl got me where I need to be. This hybrid strain feels like it is equal on both sides. I was focused the way I needed to be and my body was very relaxed. Anxiety gone and some minor aches went away. Finished the bowl and got high. A relaxing high I would recommend smoking in the evenings while playing video games.

Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in 1960 into a middle class family. He grew up in Brooklyn, NYC and starting drawing at an early age. His mother encouraged his art and took him to museums so he could learn and become inspired. He constantly drew and painted. Using oils, crayons, spray paints, acrylics, and anything else he can paint with. He painted in layers, sometimes overdrawing on purpose to grab the attention of the observer. He used elements to empower and depict the black persons experience. Symbols such as crowns that he would paint on the top of his black heroes, which were mainly musicians, artists, writers, and athletes.

His fame really started from the graffiti art he sprayed around the city, mainly in the lower east side of Manhattan. He would tag it SAMO, which meant Same Old. Him and his friend Al Diaz would graffiti SAMO usually with some poem or social question. After two years, they came out and claimed the work. Jean was given some studio space and for years he would create thousands of works of art that would sell for a lot. He lived a lavish lifestyle, even dating Madonna for a while. Even being wealthy, he dealt with a lot of racism still. He depicted that through his art.

Later on, Andy Warhol, a famous elite artist, befriended Jean and they created some really good art that was critizised by the art community. Their last exhibit tanked and they broke their friendship. A year later Andy died. Jean had picked up using heavy drugs like heroin and cocaine earlier on and his use was becoming a problem. In 1988, Jean died of a heroin overdose.

His art is appreciated and still loved today. It has empowered others to become artists and to create art in their own style. His art teaches the life of black culture in America. Art taught him human history and he managed to capture history in his own paintings.

What is your favorite work by Basquiat?
