Power Spikes Arcade
15Power Spikes retains all the features of Super Volleyball and makes improvements.This game is different from its prequel, only one button is used, including the fundamental of the wall that was previously called with a second button.
Graphics and fluidity of the sprites have been significantly improved and some playability limits have been eliminated: in fact, the possibility of chasing a long ball over the end line has been added.
A new special serve has been added in which the ball disappears and then reappears. The player in all matches except the final is aided by a blue arrow cursor which indicates in which area the opposing hitter is attacking.
The versions of the arcade game are essentially two (the group of Asian versions for Japan, South Korea and China and the version for the West) and they differ from each other in the way the team is chosen: in fact, in the Asian versions of the game the user can identify himself only with the national team of the country for which the port has been made, but with a choice between men's and women's teams;
in the western version you take part in the men's championship but with a choice of nine national teams, probably chosen for the impact of Japanese video games in those countries, as it is possible to select national teams from countries that do not boast a great tradition in volleyball or even national at the time non-existent, such as the British one; in the oriental versions if you play with the two-player mode you can choose between three different national teams, for which there are names, faces and characteristics of each individual player: you can see how the faces are inspired by real players of the time, and in the Italian national team players like Andrea Lucchetta and Luca Cantagalli can be recognized;
in the version for the western market all the selectable teams have characteristics and faces of the players, but the faces are copies of those present in Super Volley '91 in the three selectable teams, retouched in the colors. A further difference between the versions are the opponents that face each other in the single player mode.
The USA version make us play the US team vs the world.
Between one match and the next, indications are displayed that help the player to learn some techniques of the game. The starting score of the races can now be changed from the DIP switch menu, although by default the matches start, in order, on 12-12, 11-12, 10-12, 9-12 and 8-12. There are different levels of difficulty in the game.
