Practicing Artistic Weaknesses | When Plans Fail
6This video is the first in a series of (probably) three videos about practicing specific concepts and themes. This first one is mostly about having a certain intent or artistic vision, but failing to put it to paper. Often, for me it's been a "skill" issue - not in the sense of having natural born gifts, but more in that I lacked the experience and haven't done the repetitions to improve. As I've gained experience, I found I can scope improvement to specific things I want to target. I still fail to implement my ideas of course - which was true in this featured painting. But it becomes less frequent the more practice I get. In the second and third in this series, I'll talk about when plans succeed, and how repeating concepts is sometimes just fun (and not specifically for practice).
