Prevent Shadow From Leaving Your Party (Final Fantasy VI, SNES) - A Wild Glitch Appears!
In Final Fantasy VI (which was Final Fantasy III in North America) there's a certain scenario toward the beginning of the game where Shadow the ninja joins your party. Since he's a total cowboy, there's a small chance he might leave your party at the end of a random battle. But there's an easy mechanic you can exploit that will prevent that chance from taking effect.
After the battle against Ultros, your party is split up into three groups, each having their own scenario. In Sabin's scenario, you will encounter a character named Shadow who will agree to join your party.
However, he warns you that he might leave at any time. After random encounters, there's a chance he might just leave your party and you won't see him again for a long time. I think for most random encounters, there's a 1/8 chance he will leave, however, he won't leave you during the Phantom Train scene.
But! If you simply make him the leader of your group, he WILL NOT LEAVE YOUR PARTY after random encounters. Place him in the 1st character slot to make him the leader.
If you keep him as the leader of your party, he won't leave your group until you make it to the Barren Falls - this is scripted, and will always leave your group if he makes it this far.
