This was my complete playthrough of Probotector/Contra live on instagram for my challenge to complete every UK NES game during 2020&2021. I only used original cartridges and a CRT tv. No cheats are used in any of my playthroughs.

#94 Probotector (Contra)
-Surely one of the most famous titles on the NES and highly thought after by gamers for it's well designed levels, smooth gameplay and notorious difficulty. Is that a fair assessment? Well on two accounts yes definitely, on difficulty however, hmmm I disagree. This is a tough game make no mistake, but does it deserve its legendary difficulty? I dont think so. I've often read people say they wouldn't consider playing this without using the Konami code to start you with 30 lives, (is that 30 for each continue?) Either way I think if you cant finish this game with 30 lives, you're not really cutout for this kind of game. With a little more practice I think I could comfortably finish this game with one life, and I only started playing this for the first time yesterday! I don't say that to sound stuck up, on the contrary to demonstrate that if people practice this game more you may realise it isnt as tough as it might first seem.

Regardless of your ability to complete the game, I highly recommend playing this to experience a truly great early run and gun that's been converted beautifully by Konami for the NES. Of course the PAL region saw the 'censored' robot version of the game instead of the classic muscle bound mercenaries, but I'm fine with that, it looks great either way.

As with all the early Contra games, there's levels that offer altered perspectives to contend with. In this game, stages 2 and 4 take you into a forced 3D perspective. It's well done, intuitive and looks great.
The rest of the levels are side scrolling platform run and gun action. Plenty of challenge but never unfair, it keeps you coming back for more.

Your arsenal is not as diverse as later games, it's no contest that Spreadshot is the superior option to equip. Flame and Laser seem more of a handicap at times despite their individual advantages with range and power.

Bosses arent too tough, I personally think stage 4 is the hardest without Spread.

Overall another that hasn't lived up to its legendary difficulty status for me, but another that's been a joy to complete.
