This one, created by begrimed and crew is a definitive, highly customizable Vanilla+ romhack of Super Metroid for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. In game, you have access to a slew of physics and ability mechanics options which can be used to increase/decrease the difficulty of the game, or just make it a generally more pleasing experience. A fine example of this being the Fast Speed Booster. There are many graphical changes that can be removed or applied such as beam trails and certain particles. It's highly recommended by those who have tried it including myself.

Depending on what folder you download from their site, you'll get either the newest patch of the game (in 0.8.1 [UH]), or a collection of patches for very specific overhauls, such as changes in gravity or graphical changes (In 0.7.3 + Extras). There's an Item Randomizer in that folder too by the way. The newest version has everything you need for a quality Vanilla+ experience but perhaps it can be a bit much for purists?

If you don't like all the settings, that "extras" file might be worth a peek even if it is an older version. And it seems those patches can be combined, check the HTML in that folder for some of that info.
