=============================

Hey, everyone! I'm once again participating in the Project For Awesome, the YouTube-wide day of charity/non-profit promotion started by Hank and John Green, aka, the Vlog Brothers. It's basically a site-wide effort to raise awareness for various non-profits and charities through the power of online video.

This year, I decided to go in a slightly different direction (though not drastically) from years' past, and promote an online project that seeks to help stop relationship abuse amongst young people, known as, "LoveIsRespect".

LoveIsRespect was created with the combined efforts and resources of the National Domestic Violence Hotline and an anti-abuse non-profit called, "Break the Cycle". This project seeks to help create and nuture healthy dating habits, as well as provide a safe space for young people to get help and information pertaining to relationship abuse.

So many young people experience relationship abuse, whether it be physical (hitting, shoving, slapping, etc.), emotional/verbal (name-calling, threats, insults, humiliation, etc.), stalking, financial (using money/access to accounts to exert power and control), sexual (anything that impacts a person's ability to control their sexual activity or the circumstances in which it occurs), and/or digital (essentially verbal/emotional abuse perpetuated through technology and social media). It's important that we talk about these issues, and try to foster healthy and non-abusive relationships in young couples. Otherwise, their abusive relationships could have long-standing negative effects.

Above all else, I want to make it abundantly clear that, if you have experienced relationship abuse (or ANY form of abuse, in any context, for that matter), IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT!! You are not responsible or to blame for the actions of another person, no matter your age, gender, sexuality, or any other factor. You are in no way "deserving of" or "asking for" abuse, and YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME.

AN EXTRA NOTE!: At about 1:57, I use the phrase, "boyfriend or girlfriend", when relaying the statistic about 1 in 10 teens reporting physical abuse from a dating partner; although I put "partner" in the text blurb at that part (and not "boyfriend or girlfriend"), I do want to clarify here, as well, that relationship abuse can happen to ANYONE of ANY gender identity (even those of non-binary identities). The "boyfriend or girlfriend" bit is just the verbiage used on LoveIsRespect's website, and I was simply giving the stat as they worded it, although I should've reworded it slightly to be more inclusive. My apologies for that.

In addition to the number for the National Domestic Violence Hotline listed above, there are a few ways you can contact LoveIsRespect advocates!
