Prototype 2 (Part 3 / Finale)
Original stream date: 03/03/2025
I may have forgotten, and highly underestimated, just how much content the Red Zone had.
Anyway, I think my opinion of this game is roughly the same as it was back then. Good gameplay, good visuals, pretty nonsensical story (especially when compared to the first game).
Some of the old problems with the actions not targeting the right thing are still present which does still make some stuff a bit awkward I guess, but the actual combat is way, way better (the buffed shield does a shocking amount to help the combat loop). Visually the game is mostly an upgrade from Prototype 1. I will say I do think Prototype 1 had a better system for blood splatters, but that's mostly small I think.
But again, the story just isn't as good as the first game, between Alex Mercer being a complete and total moron from the start, and a lot of the missions effectively nerfing Heller so that they can actually work (so many instances where Heller could just consume people to gain their knowledge and he just doesn't, even though he is fully aware that he can do that, which isn't helped when he often does it anyways at the end of the mission), it's just odd.
I'm also going to stick with my opinion of the Evolved enemies, they're really annoying and basically make stealth a no-go whenever you have to encounter them for missions, effectively restricting player choice. I dunno, I just don't like it.
Now is the game worth $40 when it's not on sale?
No. I can barely recommend it when it is on sale because this game, and Prototype 1, do not work right from install. In order to get the games to run, you have to download multi-fixer mods and manually install them (and hope they work). The moment I have to manually install extra stuff to get a game to even run, I have a really hard time recommending it, in any capacity.
I don't know how Activision can get away with selling either game in the broken state that they're in, let alone the price they're selling them at.
